Jewelry and Art:

Why  did you start your  company Rachel Stewart Designs? And  what is it aimed  to do?

I wanted to have my own business, something I could do from home..its aimed to offer things you cant find in stores..items that speak to a modern black women.

I truly enjoy the fresh take you have with all your jewels. What new fresh items can we expect soon?

I’m working on Clutches, hats and more personalized jewelry, I just started offering custom image cameo earrings and necklaces.

RAYjewelryspotlights

How did you get your start as an artist?
I’ve been painting all my life, I come from a family of artist and singers..so it just came naturally to me as a child…

Did you always want to create jewelry?

I never thought about creating jewelry till last year…its really an extension of my creativity, it wasn’t a huge decision..

And do you create any other forms of artwork?

I’m also an established artist, I paint large scale paintings, 5 and 6 ft tall..

rayart Which of your jewelry pieces is your favorite..if u can narrow down to just one? I love my “natural” necklace, it says everything about the person wearing it…

I know your husband is also an artist, what type is he and where can we locate his work?

he is a professional photographer and graphic designer..

  • Newday

I am a poet but I love anything creative (painting, ceramics, etc). I love the afro pick necklace and I'm gonna buy that right now!! Thanks for featuring this talent.

  • Britney D.

I love all forms of art, but my current fave is knitting. It's amazing how one can use yarn, string, or animal fur in order to create something amazing, from a dress to slippers! :)

Ms. Rachel Stewart, your jewelry and art is beautiful! Keep up the wonderful work, and I'll be a customer soon!

  • Alaina

no medium of art speaks to me like jewelry. it tells so much about both the maker and the person that chooses to wear it. :)

  • Shaharazad

I really enjoy all forms of art mostly because I do not posses the skills to create it. But I do like writing different forms of poetry, it lets me express my self and I write my own poetry in cards that I give to my friends and family, I love seeing their smiles.

I love all types of art such as abstract, earrings, etc. It just amazes me so much.

  • CharyJay

Growing up, I was really into abstract art because it was easy to create and still managed to convey a mood or feeling. Now that I'm older I've gotten interested in many different forms of art! I just wish I had the time to put my creativity to work and work on other forms myself.

  • arsha

i'm a web designer, that's an illustrator at heart who loves bright colors and thought provoking concepts!

My two favorite aspects of art are jewelry design and make up artistry

  • Rahel

Rachel's jewelry and paintings are amazing and I have to have those blue earrings!!! I think jewelry art and paintings is a form of expression that tells a lot about the artist and also sends a great message.

  • http://www.iRockLocs.com Kim

I love many aspects of art, especially since I don't consider myself very artistic. I enjoy poetry, painting, and make-up the most. I have recently fallen in love with so many awesome jewely makers like Rachel Stewart!

  • ShaeShay

I have always been fascinated by the vibrant colors, shapes, and story that art, jewelry, and collages tell. Also, the fact that art allows people to interpret their own meaning and create their own memory/story. Rachel Stewart's jewelry shows a since of pride through her afrocentic peaces. It's not “watered” like some pieces you will see in the mainstream.
    XOXO- ShaeShay

I love jewelry, especially earrings! The bigger and bolder, the better! I've loved make-up since I was a little girl. I also like knitting and crocheting…I need to get better at them.

  • Anita

I enjoyed both the jewelry and the art, however, I did find the earrings different and unique. The only jewelry I wear is earrings and one ring occasionally, so I am partial to them.

  • TracyJ

I enjoy jewelry and styling as far as art is concerned. I am not gifted enough to draw, or sing. But, I have been lucky enough to be a visual person so that has helped when I put an outfit together with different patterns, prints, etc… Fashion is how I express myself and allow my artistic side to show through. This includes my hair which has proven to be the best accessory of them all! ;-)

  • Gigglesjm

I love fashion (clothing, hair, jewelry, etc.) and all other aspects of the arts in general. There is something beautiful, true and vulnerable about the expression of a thought and feeling. The arts allows you as the audience a peak into someone's mind through a piece that is created, this gift is unbelievably precious. All of are artists in our own right, but few of us hone our skills or acknowledge it.

  • Tstigall

Imagine it, Create it and Claim it. I love art as a whole, u named it…even the scribble of my 2 year old. There is no limits when u have a craft. Strings , yarn, paint and beads.. I go crazy in the hobby store, racheal did a good job with some of the late greats and the cutes names too. “Denise and Sandra” My Fav.

  • Catherine

I love photography! It is a huge passion of mine and I enjoy taking pictures of beautiful things. It relaxes me and gives me a sense of freedom.

  • Sherese Francis

I like all types of art, but my favorite would have to be paintings, sculptures and earrings.

  • Georgianicolson13

I love abstract art because it is an easy way fr me t express myself without any sort of guidelines :) I d art for fun!

  • nubianqueen89

I lover the fact the jewelery are bright, funky and so fashionable. As I'm African I also love the fact that her jewelry has an Afrocentric feel to them without being overbearing and obnoxious.

  • http://twitter.com/CiaE7 Felicia E

I love art as a whole because i believe that it is the heart to every mind. I especially love black art! This is because you can see the soul of African Americans in ever drawing.
