As you know, I LOVE Ayurveda..it’s done wonders by me (despite me not using it frequently and consistently). However, I have a mix that I used to use, but since my hair recently was severely dry and feeling lost, I decided to tweak my formula.

Here’s what you will need:

Key Ingredients:

  • 5tsp Amla Powder
  • 2tsp Brahmi Powder
  • 1tsp Shikakai Powder
  • 1-2Tbsp EVOO
  • 1/2 Cup Coconut Milk
  • 1/4 Cup Water (Hot)

Tools:

  • Spoon (teaspoon)
  • Fork (optional)
  • Bowl
  • Plastic wrap/plastic bag/plastic cap
  • Towel or Paper Towels

Preparation:
Put all the powdered ingredients into the bowl then add the EVOO. Stir till it is a cake-batter like creamy consistency. Add in the coconut milk slowly. It will clump. Stir again till almost creamy. Next add the hot water in slowly, stirring as you go, till it is a creamy and smooth cake batter. Let sit for about 2 minutes to cool.

Apply to the hair in sections. It is best to apply it to dampened sections. Concentrate on root to tip, section by section. Once fully applied, cover the hair with plastic and let sit for atleast 1 hour to 4 hours, or even overnight if you so choose. Rinse out using lukewarm water, with a conditioner (I used Herbal Essences Hello Hydration), then proceed to co-wash and deep condition as normal. Your hair should feel quenched!

Stay Blessed and Afroniquely You!

What is the reason for using this Ayurveda Mix? Seems like everyone uses something for moisture, prevent dryness, help hair grow..etc. But this is what i don't understand, what is the purpose of using these certain ingredients in hair? Does it make it grow longer, curlier, stronger, better, smell nice? What are the results and purpose of using this particular method?

I use it to add moisture to my strands, also it's cheaper to use that method in some cases than it is to continuously buy shampoos and conditioners. I incorporate it into my hair care regimen, so that my hair can be stronger, and healthier. My results was hair that was shinier, more body and way less breakage.

    Good morning!

I’m looking to purchase the suggested powders….but the sites you referenced in your past ayurvedic post seems to be sold out of these items. Is AMAZON a good place of purchase…and the products good? Or would you happen to know of some more sights that sell these?

Hey there, well Amazon I checked recently, and they don’t have the powders anymore :(

AyurNaturalBeauty is usually my first pick and best bet (cheap prices and good shipping + fast and good service) see here: http://www.ayurnaturalbeauty.com (I just checked, they seem to have things in stock)

I think as well these two are places online people have bought from:
    http://www.mehndiskinart.com/hair_powders.htm
    http://www.theindianfoodstore.com/

But my ultimate good one is always http://www.ayurnaturalbeauty.com

HELP! I tried an Ayurvedic dc, but had a heck of a time rinsing my hair clean. I normally wash my hair in braids, but had to wash my hair loose to get the herb residue out. Any tips?

Hmm…well when I do it..I try to do a conditioner wash after..it helps lift the “dirt”/powder off, do it perhaps twice, but that usually does it for me. Perhaps, you might want to do the Ayurvedic Tea Rinses instead of the paste? Kind of the method I did here: http://www.afroniquelyyou.com/2009/01/ayurvedamy-new-regimen/

See if that works better, either way, you’ll benefit from the product..Another way I like to use the powders is to take a bottle of cheapie/not so expensive conditioner like perhaps Sauve Tropical Coconut, or the Herbal Essences line and mix my powders directly to the conditioner, this way it’s two for one..The powders do their work, and then it rinses really easily afterwards.

      I hope this helps :)
